Specific Dates and Info Trickle In

Okay, so right now its a daily drive into Boston Monday through Friday for Radiation Treatment. His last treatment is July 10th. He has a pre-op consult (or whatever they call it) with the Surgeon on July 25th. Then he has Surgery on September 5th. Yes, it is really finally scheduled! On that day they will remove the section of rectum that had cancer. Due to the radiation, most of the tumor, if not all, will be gone when the surgeon goes in. He will just be removing the "previously infected" area. He will re-build the Rectum (I will skip those details.. if you really want to know... call us!). And he will re-route things to a colostomy bag while his handy work has a chance to heal. Dave will have the bag for about 6 months. (So that is until around... say.. February or so?) Then he will have surgery again (in Feb?) to re-attach the re-built pieces to the system... there-by allowing him to ditch the bag. From the initial surgery in September, Dave will have 6 weeks or so to recover from the surgery then they begin the Chemo. (Possibly beginning around October 17th?? Specific date not yet truly known. ) Yes, Dave is on chemo now, but it is a very low dosage and he wears a pack to deliver it to him in itty-bitty doses over a 5 day period. This is going to be a different kind. I don't have too many specifics yet. But lets just say (for example) that he goes in on a Monday. They give him several hours of an infusion while he sits in a chair watching a movie... this is the heavy hitting type. Then they will attach the pump to him ... much like he has now.... and he wears it for 3 days and then goes back in (would that be on Wednesday or Thursday he goes in? not sure how they count the days. ) to have it disconnected. So it is 3 days of treatments out of every 14 days. That "3 out of 14" cycle goes for 4 months. So maybe ending around Mid February??! Will keep you posted as specifics continue to come in or course.
