3ft 2 inches is not the same as 32 inches

So there was this guy in Maryland. He was not very smart.

He was building his own house.

The local building code required him to have a window that was big enough for a firefighter to get through. They had decided that the fire-fighter had to be able to crawl in with his oxygen mask/tank on. So on the architect's plans said a number

But he did not know how to properly decode it.

He ordered all of the windows in his house to be 32 inches. Keep it simple. Order them all the same.
While he waited for the windows to arrive, he built the window casings.
The inspector came,... and pointed out that he had mis-read the drawings and specs.
He had a costly re-do!

The take home messages that has stayed with me... to take to our home...
Make sure the firefighters can get into each room your house by having big ass windows that are 38 inches.
(is that 38 as in the way we measure TV's?)
And before you "measure twice, cut once," make sure you know how to read the architect's drawing! ha ha!
